about
Need You (Forever) is the third single that Dave and Tom will be releasing since forming their new project, the dt’s.
Dave wrote the song while in college. He first came up with the riff, and then later added lyrics. The riff naturally came together, infusing elements with some of his most beloved bands (e.g. The Beatles, Oasis).
Lyrically, the song is a concoction of different life experiences, events, and feelings that Dave was going through at the time. Everything from school, work, and relationships were infused in the lyrics.
When Dave brought the song to Tom, they both agreed that it was a song that should be recorded along with the other singles.
We recorded Need You (Forever) in our home studio during lockdown where we really took the time to dive deep into understanding the recording process.
The song started just on two acoustic guitars. From there we added layers of electric guitars through our vintage Fender, Peavey, Vox amps. We utilized Dave’s Gibson Les Paul Custom SG and Tom’s dad’s 74’ Fender Strat heavily. We also experimented with vocal layering harmonies, which were tedious but rewarding.
Tom added bass and scratch drums which we then sent to our good friend Frank Letteri of The Paper Jets & Dust Of Days to record drums on a full batch of our songs in his home studio setup. From the scratch drum ideas, Frank did an incredible job of mirroring our parts but also adding his own flare through his powerful playing. We then decided to work with our friend Joe Pomarico over at Telegraph Hill Records for mixing and mastering. We got to work with Joe this past winter at his home studio for Musicians On A Mission benefit show with other local Asbury artists and friends. After working with Joe, hearing his other work and always crossing paths, we knew he was the perfect fit. His experience and easy going attitude made the mixing and mastering process very fluid.
One of the things we are most proud of with Need You (Forever) are the peaks and valleys throughout the song, eventually crescendoing to a massive peak at the end; filled with vocals, guitars, drums, and catchy melodies.
lyrics
Baby
Won’t you take my hand
And lead me out of here
Once again
Baby
I can’t realize
The beauty I see
In your eyes
Momma
I need you now
Tell me what to do
Coach me through
Baby
We live two different lives
You’re out there
While I make the dough rise
Make the dough rise
Baby
What’s wrong today?
I said baby
What’s wrong today?
What is there to be down about?
Everyone is waiting on you
I know you’ve got your problems,
But we’ve all got them too
Too
I feel it coming and I
Feel it coming
No I
Need you forever
Come in leashes go in pieces
Was never really a fan of myself
Indecisive so inviting
Never really made up my mind
Valerian melatonin
Anything to help me sleep
Stuck between the past
Daddy, how could you do that?
That
I feel it coming and I
Feel it coming
No I
Need you forever
I need you need you
Need you forever
I need you need you
Need you forever
Well I need you need you
Need you forever
Well I need you need you
Forever
